Having a wedding does not mean that you have to break the bank. If you want to save money on your wedding, you do not need to be unconventional, although it helps to have a non-traditional wedding. Fortunately, there are simple ways to save money on a wedding, especially if you follow some of these tips:
1. Less guests
One of the most important parts of a wedding is the number of the guests. Sometimes, this number can easily climb into the hundreds, and that type of wedding would cost too much for an average couple. Having less guests will reduce the amount of food, seating, and other accommodations that you would need. You do not have to have less fun because you have invited less people. This is a decision that you will have to weigh against your budget and who you want to invite.
2. Buffet-style food
Some couples want a fancy arrangement for the dining portion of the wedding. They get caterers and they spend lots of money renting dinnerware and eating utensils. Having one long table set up with all of the food will allow your guests to eat what they want without feeling guilty. You also don't have to deal with serving complicated foods that may or may not impress your guests anyway. Sometimes, people are more comfortable talking to each other if they are able to have comforting homey food.
3. Rented/used/discount wedding clothes
Brides may have known what their dress would look like decades before their weddings. Grooms may feel a little uneasy wearing used clothes. However, renting or buying used wedding clothes such as the bride's gown or the groom's suit is a good idea for those who are on a strict budget. Alternatively, discount wedding clothes are also a great choice for those who don't care about designer labels. Gowns and full suits can cost as little as $100 each.
4. Type of venue
Smaller venues are usually less expensive than large ones. You also have to decide on the type of setting you are going to use, because that matters, too. For example, a large beach wedding will cost more than a small one at the local park. Some venues also charge extra fees for certain services, so it's important that you consider every aspect of potential venues within your price range. If you already know what your venue budget is, write it down and research only the ones that will fit your budget requirements. If you have wanted a certain type of venue and it's expensive, you will again have to grapple with saving money or getting the venue of your dreams.
Weddings can be expensive but they certainly don't have to be. Couples who want to save money on their wedding should consider some of the factors above as important in forming their wedding plans.
