For those who are well experienced in jet maintenance, you may wonder how challenging it would be finding aviation mechanic jobs at US Airways. This particular job requires applicants to hold very specific certifications prior to application. US Airways requires that all aviation mechanic applicants hold an A & P License (Airframe and Powerplant maintenance), that they have at least a high school education and that they fully understand the FAR's (Federal Aviation Regulations). Here are some other tips for finding aviation mechanic jobs at US Airways.
Know what you need ahead of time
Before you apply for an aviation mechanic job at US Airways, you must first ascertain that you meet the minimum requirements for the job. According to their website these qualifications include:
- A & P license required
- Formal training on 737, 757, A320 aircraft
- At least 1 year heavy commercial jet transport aircraft experience or previous performance of the duties set forth on the job qualification checklist
- Ability to trouble-shoot and repair aircraft systems
- Must be current per FARs
- Must have own tools
- FAA drug test is required
- Valid drivers license
Provided you have reviewed the list of requirements and you meet (or exceed) those requirements, you can then apply for an aviation mechanic job.
The application process
From the screen where you had the opportunity to select the job description, you will be asked to fill out personal data including your name, address and telephone number. Your email address will also be requested. Users of this site should also read the privacy policy that is included via hyperlink from this screen.
The following screens will walk you through the entire application beginning with setting up an account (if you do not already have one), and filling out a general application form. You will be asked if you currently or previously worked for US Airways (or their affiliates), if you are over age eighteen and if you are legally eligible to work in the United States.
Additional questions will include your education level, your current FAA status in regards to drug and alcohol testing and you will be asked if you are willing to submit to "an extensive criminal background check, drug screen, and employment verification".
Once you answer general questions about your desired salary and your computer skills, you will then be asked to upload a resume or you can create one using their built-in resume wizard. It is critical that you understand that your "online" file will not be the final time you will be asked for these documents. In fact, in the FAQ's section, the US Airways states "Our on-line file is the first step in our recruitment process and lets us know you're interested and some basic information about you and your experience. At some point in the process, you may be asked to fill out and sign a paper application or offer letter, which will constitute your official application."
Summary
The process for finding aviation mechanic jobs at US Airways is a lengthy one that requires a substantial amount of time. In addition, you will have a major investment in tools and training in order to qualify for the role of aviation mechanic. Be sure that you understand the entire job description for an aviation mechanic before you apply for the position.
