This is the story of how I met my husband...twice.
When I was a junior in high school I had a super strange boyfriend named Rex. We were quite the pair. I was the soft spoken good little Christian girl trying to be bad and Rex was well, just bad. He had bright red shoulder-length hair and he smoked Camels and pretty much did whatever he wanted since his mom was busy working or spending time with her boyfriend(s). Oneof my best friends, Wendy, had a bit of a crush on Rex's best friend, Chris. Chris was super shy and quiet. He was tall and lanky and wore thick glasses. I spent quite a bit of time in the same general vicinity as Chris but never really got to know him too well. Much to blame is the fact that mine & Rex's "relationship" lasted a mere two months. Ah, young love! I stopped seeing much of Chris when Rex declared he was going to throw himself off a bridge when I broke up with him. Little did I know that someday Chris would be my husband.
Flash forward 16 years, a marriage, a daughter and a divorce later... I had been broken up with my husband for just about two months when he finally decided to take advantage of visitation with his daughter. So I was spending my first weekend alone at my apartment and I was feeling a little lonely. So, I headed over to my neighbor Tim's apartment just up the sidewalk. Now, Tim is like no one I have ever known and I don't think anybody could handle more than one of him in their life at any one time. Tim is about the same age as my parents but he couldn't be more completely around-the-bend different than my clean cut Christian folks. Tim used to be a Hell's Angel. Tim is loud and obnoxious and loves to party. He was quite off-putting when we first moved into the complex but he's the kind of person who is there loud and proud no matter what your opinion. So, I eventually learned that he didn't want to kill me and after that we became friends, however unlikely. So, back to the story... I headed over Tim's to see what he was doing. He was drinking which wasn't surprising so I thought I would let my hair down and have a few drinks. He was also getting ready to grill some chicken for dinner since is was such a beautiful, warm California evening.
Now, Tim's porch looked out over the lovely parking area and he spied another neighbor I hadn't met before (or so I thought) pulling up into his parking space. So, Tim asks me if I've ever met Chris. I say I haven't and Tim drags me out there all the while yammering on
