The National League Central should be considered one of the most competitive divisions in baseball in 2007. Besides the Pirates, you can honestly say that every single team in that division is fielding a pretty good baseball team. That being said, this division should be one of the most exciting to watch, and trying to predict the outcome to this division is like splitting hairs.
The one easy thing to predict is that the Pittsburgh Pirates will come in last. If this team added some pitching they would be a solid baseball team, because this lineup with Jason Bay, Freddy Sanchez, and Adam Laroche is solid. The problem is they have no starting pitching, no bullpen, and no closer, and we all know that without pitching you are going nowhere.
Coming in 5th will be the Cincinnati Reds. Although this team is definitely moving in the right direction, they still have a couple more years to go before they can compete in the Central. We all know this team can hit, but what this team lacks is pitching. I applaud them for trying to get some pitching by trading Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez last season, but still that was not enough. Plus can Dunn stop striking out, and can Griffey stay healthy? And can they win away from their hitter friendly ballpark are all questions they must answer before they start competing.
Coming in 4th,are the Milwaukee Brewers. This is a very talented team that are a piece of two away from seriously being contenders. There are just to many things that need to happen. For example, Ben Sheets needs to stay healthy and become the ace we all know he is. Rickie Weekes needs to become the star everyone in Milwaukee thinks he is going to be. They also need to find a 4th and 5th starter behind Sheets, Capuano, and Suppan. Give the Brew Crew one more year before they start making a move.
Coming in 3rd, are the Chicago Cubs, and all I have to say about this team is WOW! This team has one of the best lineups in baseball, and combining the fact they play at Wrigley makes the ball club a very dangerous one. With the addition of Soriano they will have a 3,4,5 of Ramirez,Lee,Soriano and not in that order. With all the hitting though, something has to give. This team is sorely lacking in pitching BAD. After Zambrano their is absolutely no one. If their relying on Ted Lilly (a career 4.60 ERA) and Jason Marquis (a career 4.55 ERA) to put them over the top they are very wrong. Also,if they are relying on Mark Prior to stay healthy that is just being
