A Little Later
Once upon a time, there lived two beautiful little girls. One named Kylie, the other named Cloe. They lived with their mother Jade, and their father Lee, in a beautiful cottage. Kylie and Cloe did everything together. Well, almost everything. While the girls loved to play, they always seemed to have trouble cleaning up. When asked to clean up, the girls would always ask a question of their own;
“Can’t we do it later?” Their mother Jade would usually give in.
“Once you finish playing, you’ll have to clean up.” Jade would say. Kylie and Cloe would continue to play, while Jade cooked and cleaned in the kitchen. When dinner was ready, Jade called the girls to the table. “Girls, it’s time to eat. When you finish, it will be time to clear your dishes.” Jade informed them.
“Okay mom.” They replied in unison. The girls finished eating, rushing to the sink with their dishes. Most days, one of the girls would ask; “Mom. Can we play for a while before bed?” This was usually followed by a string of pleas. Most days, Jade would say yes. A few days went by, with the same routine. Before the family knew it, the cottage was being taken over by the girls mess.
After stepping on a particularly painful toy, Jade decided that something had to change. That night Jade spoke to her husband and came up with a plan. In the morning, the girls dressed quickly, wanting to play. Jade however, had a slightly different plan in mind. Jade set breakfast out and ate with the girls as usual.
This time, once the girls had placed their dishes in the sink, she called them back to the table. “Girls, your father and I, have decided to make you a deal.” Jade said.
“What deal?” The girls asked.
“Well the deal is, you and Cloe no longer have to clean up, but neither do your father and I.” Jade waited to see what their reactions would be. The two girls grinned happily.
“Okay mom.” They said. The two sisters went to their play room, eager to play.
