"Stranger Than Fiction" peaked my interest because Will Ferrell had been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for it. Yes, the same Will Ferrell that has made such goofy comedies like "Old School", "Zoolander", and "Anchorman" has been recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press. That has got to account for something, right?
Harold Crick, Ferrell's character that garnered the nomination, seems to be in some sort of race against time and an English woman(Emma Thompson)narrating his life. T
Maggie Gyllenhaal, who certainly has been a busy actress, is the love interest for Harold that somewhat helps deter him from that voice in his head. He goes out of his way to figure out how the whole narrating things started.
So he seeks counseling from Dustin Hoffman's character. Then comes to find out that narrator is actually an author who's made him his character. It sounds a bit confusing but it's quite entertaining. While a bit slow in some parts, Ferrell's performance makes the film.
It's not like any other Will Ferrell film so hardcore fans of "Old School" may be sorely disappointed. I really liked it. Ferrell was very good as the straight man as opposed to the guy who's slightly askew. I recommend it for a dvd rental.
