We have all been there. You drink a few too many glasses of egg nog over the holidays or overdo it on great dinners while on vacation and you find yourself a few pounds heavier than normal when things settle down. There are two courses of action when you notice the number on the scale creeping higher and higher. You can either get yourself right back on track and lose the weight right away, or you can stall and procrastinate. However, dragging your feet when it comes to dealing with marginal weight gain can lead to the weight gain increasing and becoming…not so marginal.
As with most things in life, dealing with the problem right away will often prevent it from escalating and becoming unmanageable. If you deal with weight gain straightaway, usually you minimize the amount of weight you gain and the time it will take in order to get back to where you want to be. On the other hand, if you put off dealing with the issue, you may find that it continues to escalate and you wind up with way more of an issue than you ever intended to have.
By dealing with your weight gain immediately, you minimize the negative impact that it has on your body as well. People forget that extra weight doesn’t just hurt your ego and the seams of your favorite jeans, it also can cause physical harm to your body. Extra weight can force your heart to work harder and lead to a variety of health problems. By dealing with the added pounds right away you will limit the amount of time these additional fat deposits have to wreak havoc on your body and restore order promptly.
The quicker you act in terms of dealing with weight gain, the better off you will be on many levels. Your body will experience limited changes and will hopefully bounce back quickly. You minimize the amount of time that you spend in an unhealthy state and you also prevent the problem from developing a life of its own. Have you ever looked at someone who is tragically and morbidly obese and wondered to yourself how they got that way? It had to start somewhere. This doesn’t mean, of course, that dragging your feet a little will cause you to become morbidly obese, but the problem can escalate much faster than you anticipate. Dealing with it immediately will ensure that your body goes back to normal and remains at optimal health.
