It seems like every day there is a new book, seminar, or workshop teaching the general public how to find their purpose in life. The majority of the population has bought into the idea that there has to be a higher purpose something that the divine has charged them with accomplishing before their time is up. Some are lucky enough to figure out what their purpose is at a young age, every now and then there is a child that comes along that knows exactly what they want to do with their life, more common, is the person who never seems to find their purpose.
What is the difference, why do some people seem to have a destiny and others don't? The problem is with what it means to have a purpose. To have a purpose means that you have a reason for existing, something to work for and something that you want to accomplish in your lifetime.
The very word purpose brings to mind goals and ambitions, things to work towards, and the dream of living a successful life. Rarely does it remind people that in life an individual chooses what their purpose will be. Whether consciously or not each person decides what is important to them, what they care enough about to devote their lives to, and through those decisions they also decide how they will spend their time. The ones with a clear goal for the future are the ones that appear to have it all together with a dream and the will to accomplish whatever it happens to be.
There are things that determine your purpose, but they can change, your purpose one year might not be the same as your purpose the next. It's a flexible and fluid part of the identity, changing as the things that matter change. So how does a person going about determining what the reason for their life is? The answer is simply by being aware of the things that matter to them and working toward the changes they would like to see in the world.
If you are looking for your purpose consider a couple of things what do you love to do? what's most important to you? and what kind of things do you choose to spend your spare time working on? Is it possible your purpose lies in what you already know? If you are certain you haven't yet found what you're meant to do here are some suggestions to think about:
