The US tax season viewed in historical perspective

Holiday season for the I.R.S. "A time for taking not giving"

"The only difference between a tax man and a taxidermist is that the taxidermist leaves the skin." Mark Twain

The first known system of taxation was in Ancient Egypt around 3000 BC - 2800 BC in the first dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Records from the time document that the pharaoh would conduct a biennial tour of the kingdom, collecting tax revenues from the people.

So what's all this talk about the evolution of man? Our means of collecting may have been made more sophisticated however the penalty for failing to pay taxes is perhaps more severe today than back in the days of Kings, Lords and Emperors.

In a land, know as the land of the free, just fail to pay your taxes one year and you'll see just how free you are. If you're wealthy, you are rewarded with tax cuts and exemptions from all sorts of penalties that the common worker must face. All you need is a highly polished attorney who knows the law inside and out and knows how to find all the loopholes, as to where you will end up paying fewer taxes than your chauffeur pays.

It's a shame the government keeps the working man and woman so busy working two jobs to feed their children they don't have the time to investigate or see beyond a politicians words of read my lips to what is really going on back stage.

I will never understand why the rich and powerful cannot take on some responsibility in keeping our way of life here in America or anywhere in the world well balanced and fair for everyone. We do admit life, as we know it is a game. Why not make the game fun and interesting for everyone instead of a disease that works like an evil demon trapped in our souls driving us mad with a greed for the almighty dollar.

We do need changes in the tax system, what sort of changes? Don't ask the politicians for they will come up with a scheme so complicated no one in their right mind could possibly understand it. However, as usually, the poor people will trust the politicians they voted for and accept it. However though they are told it is successful, they don't seem to understand why their still paying the same if not more taxes than the year before.

Of course the republican party is well recognize as the party of the rich, so perhaps if we do get a democrat in office, to clean up the mess made by the present administration we may have a brighter future to look forward to, with less taxes to pay from the ones who truly deserve the tax cuts. The working men and women who keep this world of ours turning.
