An Addicting Romp with the Undead
Video game developer PopCap is well known for making addicting and highly entertaining casual games. Plants vs Zombies, PopCap’s acclaimed entry into the tower defense genre, came out with every bit of polish and charm that gamers have come to expect from the company. The GOTY edition sweetens the deal even more with the addition of extra features, including tools to create your own zombies!
Plants vs Zombies is essentially a spin on the popular tower defense game style. You are tasked with stopping waves of zombies from reaching your home and snacking on your brains. How can you stop such hungry creatures? Simple, you build a garden of brave plants to defend you. In order to place these plants you need to harvest a basic resource, sun, which is periodically created by sunflowers.
The game is very easy to get the hang of, but true mastery comes from finding the right plants to use during different situations. As the game continues, you gradually unlock new plants, with a total around of around 50 completing the collection. Your zombie foes are just as varied in their types, ranging from slow old lady zombies to zombie bobsled teams!
Ambient sound, music and graphics all come together through a very appealing presentation. The zombie genre is one saturated with gore and violence, but PopCap have managed to execute Plants vs Zombies with a fair dose of charm. The art style is cartoony and bright, and all of the characters are full of their own personality. Have you ever wanted to see a real zombie do the thriller dance? This game is your chance.
You can grab the GOTY edition of Plants vs Zombies from steam for $9.99, which is a steal considering the content that is packed into the title. There is a full story mode to battle your way through, full of unlockable plants and new enemies to ensure you constantly tweak your strategy. This never feels like a chore though, and it is very rewarding to see a new set up of plants keep your brains safe for the next stage. Completing the story is far from the end of the game, as there are mini-games and challenges to keep you playing for plenty more hours. You can even try your hand at commanding the zombies!
If you are looking for a casual game packed with charm and entertainment, look no further than PopCap’s Plants vs Zombies. The game is perfect to play during breaks or to gobble up whatever time you can spare it. Plants vs Zombies is also a safe entry for gamers who prefer to avoid the violence of some mainstream games, as it presents itself in a fun and gore-free manner. At the new price of $9.99, it is hard to find reasons not to pick this title up!
