Are you getting enough exercise? Classic question heard by anyone visiting a doctors office. The usual answer from many of us would be, not really. Then there is the guilt associated with this question, the reasons and excuses pop into a person's head. So why is it that people don't get enough exercise?
Time is one big factor. If a person is working a full time job and raising kids, this is enough to take away any inkling to exercise. Many people have their days so full of activities there is no time to schedule that magic thirty minutes a day to squeeze in exercise. The only down time these people get may be the transition from work to home during their commute. Then it can be the mental roller coaster of how to get everything done and ready for the next day.
Jobs that require people to constantly be in motion may view exercise as an added stress tp their already worn out bodies. How much execise does a person need if they are constantly running back and forth from one location to another? Bending and stretching continuously throughout a shift, on a daily basis, can make a person feel they do enough to exercise their body, only to be told by their doctor they need to do more.
The electronic age has taken it's toll. As more people are tied to their desktops and laptops to conduct business and communicate, there is less chance for people to get out and exercise. While this sounds like a lame excuse, the hours spent on the computers may mean the difference between eating and paying bills than simply playing games. It is hard to exercise while meeting a deadline for a project for work. With all the downsizing, more people are doing more work for longer hours, affording them less leisure time.
Exercise overload can be attributed to the cause of people refraining from putting forth the effort to exercise on a regular basis. Turning on the television homes are inundated with exercise infomercials on a continuous basis. Gadgets from building the abs to obtaining that perfect shape are offered to the public. A person is encouraged to try the product, as a person with the perfect body image shows how the product has given them this body. People are told they should join this or that gym. Maybe the thing to try is the equipment that does everything for the person. This all adds up to exercise overload from the continuous battering of hours upon hours of infomercials waylaying the senses.
There are many reasons people aren't getting enough exercise. Life has become so hectic that exercise may have to be put off. How much or how little exercise a person gets has to be a personal choice.
