Coming Out of Her Shell
Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater
Had a Wife and couldn’t keep her
He put her in a pumpkin shell
And there he kept her, very well.
But Peter’s Wife, she wanted out
And she began to scream and shout
“I want out of this pumpkin shell
I just don’t like it very well!”
But Pete just said, “Now listen hon
If I let you out, you’ll just run
Why don’t you like the pumpkin shell?
It’s decorated very well.”
“I promise you that I won’t run.
I just want out to have some fun.
This shell smells a lot like mold
And staying here is getting old.”
So Peter thought and scratched his head
Then slyly smiled and sweetly said
“Alright my dear, you’re the winner
I’ll let you out right after dinner.”
“To celebrate, we’ll have a feast
Just stay in there for that, at least.”
He walked away, and then he ran.
He had a brilliant, perfect plan!
He came back with a loaded cart
Just filled with hams and rolls and tarts
And cakes all filled with buttercream.
Was this a feast or just a dream?
They stuffed themselves, then ate some more.
But when his Wife stepped through the door
She found that she had grown a bit
And through it she no longer fit!
Pete began to dance a jig
He knew his Wife would be too big
To clear the door after the feast
Now that her size had quite increased.
As days passed by, Pete’s Wife did doubt
That she was ever getting out.
“How can I fool that clever man?”
She knew she had to have a plan.
One day when Pete was strolling by
She asked, “Dear, would you like some pie?”
He stopped and ate a piece or four
And then came back for even more.
She baked a pie most every day.
Pete would eat one, then he’d say,
“What is IN this pie, my dear?”
But she just smiled from ear to ear.
One day when Pete stopped by for pie
He found a note that said “Goodbye.”
The pumpkin contained not a soul
And on the side he found a hole.
You see Pete’s Wife had figured out
It did no good to scream and shout.
Pumpkin pies worked so much sweeter
When married to a pumpkin eater.

Pumpkin Pie
As mama's pies came fresh from the oven,
Rich spicy odors wafted through the air,
And we kids were tempted to
Thanksgiving Day she rose early
Her breath circled the icy morning air
Frost covered pumpkins
And dew drenched grass greeted
Is there anything as pleasing,
in this crisp and cozy season,
as a slice of smooth and creamy pumpkin pie?

By something in the dark.
It slithered 'cross the wall toward me
And gave me
