Car owners’ preferences are different from one another. It would be like different preferences for food, clothes or movie genre. That is how I would like to present the top ten cars I would like to own. Granted that I have the money like Sultan Bolkiah of Brunei who has, I believe, more Rolls Royce, Benzes, Ferraris, Bentleys and Lamborghinis than anyone in the world, my preferences will be based on the following:
1. Performance and reliability. Cars that would fall under this category will be these ten makes: Audi, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, BMW, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Mitsubishi and Ford models of England. Not necessarily in that order. Please note that my choices here are for normal and regular use and not for looks, price and flashiness.
2. For economy with matching performance it would be the following: Mitsubishi, Toyota, Subaru, Suzuki, Hyundai, Citroen, Peugeot, Honda, Volkswagen and Ford of England. My choices here are based on the power-to-weight ratios of their production models.
3. For classic cars, I would have specific car makes and models on the top ten I would like to own. These would be any year/model Dodge Viper, Corvette, Ford GT, Mustang, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Mini Cooper and German Volkswagen.
4. For cars that could be used for racing or rallying, I’m not sure if there would be ten of them that I would like to own. These would be: Ford Escort/Focus, Mitsubishi Lancers, Citroen, Peugeot, Subaru and Toyota. Well, they are all the only ones that have made an impression on me. Audi was impressive in several Gran Canarias rallies but they don’t participate in World Rally Championships, I believe.
There would have been another preference and that might not be considered to be top ten family cars. I have not given it some thought because families outgrow them. They could be SUVs, Family Home Vans, RVs and what not. Besides, they are not cars, as probably this topic would want to have.
The manufacturers here like Ford of England and German Volkswagen have been specified because other countries of the same make have different models in their respective production lines. There are big differences when it comes to quality! For example, Ford USA does not necessarily manufacture models their factories produce in other countries. Volkswagen factories in Brazil do not produce better or equal quality, as what German or U.S. factories produce. It would be the same for U.S. GM factories compared to their counterparts outside the United States.
Again, what has been stated here is a personal preference that might not be the same with anyone else. The top ten cars I would like to own are based on their tested actual performance, reliability and economy of owning them. What I want to own may not be what you want to own. What is important here is to be able to describe the reason why you want to own these different top ten cars.
