Keep in mind when you are deciding on what items to take to college with you that you are going to be limited on space since the majority of college dorm rooms are quite small. Also keep in mind you will likely be sharing this small space with one or more fellow classmates. With this in mind, only pack the essentials.

Some of the essentials you will need to pack are toiletry items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and mouthwash. You will also need your razor and shaving cream as well as deodorant, shampoo and conditioner. If you usually use a blow dryer or curling iron you will need to include them. Take clothing items that do not require ironing if at all possible. You will need a collapsible laundry basket and laundry detergent. It is nice to include a couple small mementos from home to help with possible home sickness.

Most universities do not allow microwaves, toaster ovens, coffeemakers or other electric cooking devices in the dorm rooms as they look at these as potential fire hazards. Most dorm rooms do not include any cooking appliances. Pack a few eating utensils for times you bring food back to the room. The majority
