A transmission repair shop would be the choice over an all-purpose garage when your transmission is in need of attention.  Experience, knowledge and the proper tools would more likely be available at a credible transmission repair shop than the garage.  You will receive quicker service, better attention to the problem and the overall quality of work will exceed the all-purpose garage.  Since that is their bread and butter service they are more likely to want to exceed your expectations when working on your transmission problems.

A repair shop that specializes in transmissions will always be a better choice due to the fact that they are constantly involved with diagnosing, servicing and repairing transmissions.  An all-purpose garage will deal with all kinds of problems and may only be good at fixing a few, but the repair shop will most likely be great at dealing with transmissions.

Not only will the transmission shop have the correct tools on hand, they will have better access to parts which will help make your repair quicker.  Their ability to diagnose a problem will be much greater due to the consistent work that they due exclusively with transmissions.  Technicians will have the experience to get the job done quicker and with little to no mistakes.

When technicians work on the same area of a vehicle they start to find shortcuts that allow them to do the job faster and more efficiently.  These are not shortcuts in quality but shortcuts that don’t require as many steps to diagnose a problem.  They may be able to remove the transmission (if needed) with ease, due to their experience and ability to shortcut the process.

Transmission repair shop technicians will most likely be able to spot potential problems and may save you money on future repairs because of their specialized knowledge.  They will have seen common problems among similar transmissions and be able to asses transmission problems with greater confidence.  An all-purpose garage will have limited knowledge compared to the repair shop due to their mix of jobs performed.

The transmission repair shop will have the specialized tools to handle your transmission safely.  They will more likely have a more array of tools than the all-purpose garage and when it comes to any repairs on a vehicle, there is nothing like having the correct tool for the job.

All-purpose garages are great for oil changes, minor tune-ups, brakes and other minor repairs, but when it comes to your transmission, that’s a major component that you want to be sure is functioning correctly.  Find a reputable transmission repair shop and check to see their credentials and also look for the ASE sign in the business and the patch on the technician.
