Poetry: Villanelles about marriage

by Sarah Williams

Created on: November 06, 2010

True love is like a beacon in the darkest of night,

when the hearts of two lovers become one—

And all that is dusky turns to light.

When a union is forged without respite,

by no man can this bond be undone.

True love is like a beacon in the darkest of night.

Passion is not a drawing in black and white,

the colors are many and ablaze like the sun,

and all that is dusky turns to light.

The trick is to appreciate more than you fight;

In marriage, not all battles are fought to be won.

True love is like a beacon in the darkest of night.

On the edge of a precipice the horizon in sight,

love keeps us steady so we may always press on;

And all that is dusky turns to light.

Commitment is not always desire and delight,

but it is where we end up, not how fast we run.

True love is like a beacon in the darkest of night,

and all that is dusky turns to light.
