Poetry: Love's anguish

The End Of Truth

The end came quickly as I knew it would; as I knew it must.

It came, not gently as a caress from a trusted lover in the night, but swiftly, violently, a brutal blow delivered from the hand of an enemy like the backhanded slash of a scimitar against the soft skin of the neck.

How does one reconcile such an act? How can the heart and soul justify and accept disloyalty from those in who was bestowed the most precious, most valued gift of all; trust.

Now, forevermore, days will be filled questioning that which heretofore had been accepted as the truth, etched in stone, from those whose trusted place in my heart I cherished more than riches.
With that reality I am emotionally and spiritually bereft- so much poorer than the derelict, dressed in tatters against the wind;sitting hunched and solitary in a forgotten doorway along the street.

For now, without my ability to trust in those with whom I share the day, I am that much poorer and I am so much more than lonely; I am alone.
