Contrary to what you might read in other articles, it is not easy to make money with affiliate marketing, and it is not free to start such a business. You will need to know how to write. What you will also need is your own website. It takes money to set up and host a website. Just any website will not do for affiliate marketing. You will need a popular website with thousands of visitors a day. You can not just stuff some keywords into the text of your site and expect people to come like magic. You will need useful, unique content that solves some kind of problem for people.

The first step in affiliate marketing is to build your website. Without your own site you can not sign up as an affiliate with any company. It is not enough to have a blog on blogger or some articles on article sites. You must have a URL and hosting. You might set up a blog on your site with WordPress or some other blogging code, but a regular site with pages dedicated to your articles and an index page is probably better, as in a blog the top page is constantly changing. The most important thing for your site is that a lot of people visit. If you want to attract readers, you have to offer something for free, which is your writing.

Just any writing for your site will not do. People will not come to your site to read your short stories or poems and then buy the products you are trying to sell. At first you will have no affiliate links, because you are trying to attract people to your site. If you get listed in the search engines and people come to your page and there is nothing there, they will not stay long, they will not read anything, they will not tell their friends about your site, and they will not visit any advertisers.

It will take time to build your website. You have to write interesting articles that tell people what they want to know. You will need a theme for your site. It has to be about something specific. A site about dogs is too broad. A site about how to train dogs is better, and is still open enough to have several articles. Ideally, your site should be about the product you are trying to sell with your affiliate marketing. For instance: if you want to join Amazon Affiliates, you would make a site about books. "Books" is a very wide topic. You will want to narrow down your niche to specific books. "Books about training dogs" is a better subject for your site.

When you write articles for your site you will want to research the articles and make sure your information is correct.
