Marriage can be lovely, I agree.
Your own seems light and good – I’m glad for you.
I tried it once; it’s not the job for me.
It’s not the taste of sour grapes, you see,
that repels me from the thing that you cling to -
marriage can be lovely, I agree -
I just prefer the feel of being free
to the pain a marriage often puts one through.
I tried it once; it’s not the job for me.
The wreck of mine still pelts me with debris
but I’m not so jaded that it shades my view.
Marriage can be lovely, I agree -
your happiness tells me what it can be,
but you seem to think there’s more that you should do.
I tried it once; it’s not the job for me.
Accept our differences and let me be.
I’m glad for you - be happy for me too.
Marriage can be lovely, I agree.
I tried it once; it’s not the job for me.

Poetry: Villanelles about marriage
by Ted Onulak
Our life is as sweet as newly baked bread
A goodness and flavor beyond compare;
That perfumes the house from kitchen to
Let's stand under the canopy.
You wear your tall hat, I my lace glove.
Stamp on the goblet: we're hitched!
You wear

MARRIAGE
Marriage, a God given institution
Bringing those together who love in peace
One man, one woman, with no dilution
With this ring I thee wed
To have, to hold, from this day forth
To you my dearest, my love I pledge.
Our union blessed
Buy a little house and fill it with heart:
in its walls will live a girl and a boy,
two people who will never part.
