Poetry: A lonely man

by Jennifer Geitenbeek

Created on: November 05, 2010

The lonely man

he sits and wonders

where all his friends went.

He sits at the table

ledger in hand

and sees all the money he's spent

On flowers and gifts

chocolates and wine

for the woman he thought he loved

He wonders just why

and what he did wrong

to make her run from him

With sadness he thinks

of times that are lost

and will never return again

The mistakes he's made

will never be repeated

and he vows to love no more

His dog, known as Pots

senses the change

and goes up asking for a pat

He sits by his side

loving his owner

with all of his heart

His man need not be lonely

his much loved pet adores him

with a scratch by the ear

and a rub on the tummy

Both the lonely man

and his pet dog Pots

have a wonderful life to share

No more large expenses

nor unrequited love

just cuddle and pats

and chasing the ball

The things that matter

to man and to dog

are the pats, the love

and the cuddles on the couch

Both are fulfilled

in love and in comfort

they share a great bond

that can never be broken.
