When to stop talking to an ex

by Paul Manalo

Created on: November 05, 2010

Talking with an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend after a break-up is oftentimes difficult to do. Awkwardness is somehow a barrier to communication between them. But, there are also times when modesty and being civil allows communication to ensue between exes. Though uncommon, some former couples decide to remain friends and talking becomes normal. However, there are instances when talking with an ex is no longer healthy for one or on both parties. These are some examples of instances when you should stop talking to your ex.

He wants you back

But he has a new girlfriend already. This guy keeps the communication ongoing between the two of you especially when things are going rough between him and his present girlfriend. He becomes extra sweet and always reminds you of memories when both of you were together. He invites you on a date and would treat you to a movie or dinner just like when you were a couple. He tells you he wants to get back with you- but he is not breaking up with his girlfriend yet and most likely, he does not have any plans of doing so. Or maybe he has, but not until he is 100% sure he has a rebound girlfriend waiting for him. Be reminded, things are just going rough with your ex and his present girlfriend and he is making you as a temporary escape. You are wasting your precious time talking to him.

He needs a favor

One day, surprise greets you in the form of your ex-boyfriend, a sweet smile, and a bouquet of roses. Days before that, he has been making small talks with you during classes- which he has not done since both of you broke up a month ago. He tells you a lot of things and mostly he talks in circles that are mostly sugar-coated. However, the package is not complete- wait for it- he has a favor to ask of you. He is asking if you could complete a project for his assignment because he is too busy with football and passing this requirement while he leads the school team to championship would mean a lot to him. And oh, he thought of you when this assignment came up because he knew how great and creative you were. STOP. Your ex-boyfriend is a major user so stop talking to him and do not let him talk you into things again.

These are just some of the instances when you should literally stop talking to your ex-boyfriend. This could happen also for a guy who has an ex-girlfriend who does this stuff. When you are put in a situation in which you know that your ex is not talking to you out of sincerity and genuine concern to talk to you, walk out. Listening to your ex talking nonsense is waste of time, talking to him would even be a bigger waste of time.
