With a little creativity, and a lot of research, it is possible to write effectively and believably about a place that you've never visited. The Internet is a virtual treasure trove of information and you can acquire pretty much all the information you would need from within it's many available online web pages. There are thousands of maps, travel reviews, news articles, images, and personal stories available for your personal viewing.Take advantage of this information.
Rather than having to go out to see the world to be knowledgeable on it, you can now stay home, and have the world come to you. The Internet search engines will provide you with any number of tidbits of information concerning any specific country or city that you may be focused on. Do your research. Almost any information that you might want to discover about a specific region can be found by seeking it out online.
Start by searching out maps, tourist directories of the area, as well as area specific information and statistics. Maps and images of the area will give you a feel for the country's size and atmosphere. Check out key tourist information as this will provide you with the highlights, culture, and current mood of the country. Travel warnings will alert you as to internal problems within the area. Is there civil unrest, war, disease, or drug problems currently occurring within the country.
Study images of the countryside but also of the people who live there. Take note of their dress, their key occupations, their traditions, hopes, and fears. You can learn a tremendous amount about an area by reading the stories of the people who live there.
Before you begin to write, do your research, and become familiar with the area that you are planning on discussing. By doing an information search of the country that you are planning on using within your story or article, you can more easily decide whether that location is a viable one, or not. If you find that you cannot feel comfortable in writing about that location then select a more suitable area in which to base your storyline.
You don't need to know every single detail about a country in order to feel that you can write about it. You only need to know the items and ideas that are relevant to your article or story line. Focus on researching, gathering, and highlighting the key points within this relevant information. Bookmark any interesting articles so that you have access to them again should they be needed.
Never try to bluff your way through something you are not certain of. If in doubt then look it up or leave it out. Be sure to cite any sources of information that you use within your article.
Take a tour of our virtual world and see what you discover. It is sometimes surprising how with a little creativity you can develop a lot of words around the knowledge that you acquire online.
