Perhaps you have a psychiatrist in the family or amidst your group of friends who happens to be on your holiday gift list. It’s most convenient if you happen to feel the on set of madness or paranoia if you have a psychiatrist in your circle, so they can recommend another one to you. Maybe you visit a psychiatrist and wish to express your appreciation of their great talents by giving them a gift and feel that the holidays provide the perfect opportunity.
Choosing a great gift for a psychiatrist can be a difficult venture for patients who don’t want to over step the bounds of the doctor-patient relationship. It can be much simpler if you choose a gift which is suited to their office, but try to find something you like yourself as the psychiatrist will probably feel obliged to display it. Psychiatrists are always in need of many boxes of tissues and a great gift would be an Olde World tissue box cover cleverly designed to appear as a small wooden chest.
Another great gift to adorn the psychiatrist’s office is a bronze sculpture of Freud. You could choose a simple bronze paperweight, a bust of Freud’s head, or go all out and opt for a bronze resin seated Freud. A small amusing sculpture of a psychiatrist at work will look great on the desk, and they are sure to like a modern magnet desk organizer to eradicate the signs of any clutter.
Pot plants will enhance any office, as will a vase to hold an elegant flower display. Cushions for the psychiatrists couch are bound to go down well, with perhaps a tasteful foot stool for the psychiatrist to rest his feet on as he listens to his patients emote.
A bound journal will always come in handy for note taking and the psychiatrist is bound to love one disguised in the pages of a Pulp Journal announcing “Confessions of a Psychiatrist” They may well enjoy a bit of light reading whilst taking a leisurely break on the couch, so choose some humorous books such as Denis di Claudio’s “The Paranoid’s Pocket Guide to Mental Disorders Your Can Just Feel Coming on”, or “Shrink Assault” by Lorenzo Samuel.
Out of office hours the psychiatrist will probably appreciate a simple t shirt which reminds them of their profession. You could be spoilt for choice with t shirts ranging from “Jung at Heart”, and “Fluent in psychobabble”. There is one with a picture of Freud sitting above the caption “If it’s not one thing it’s your Mother”.
Any of these great holiday gift ideas don’t really breach any ethics of gift giving to your psychiatrist in the same way an envelope of used notes or free vacations away would surely do. If the psychiatrist happens to hate your choices they can always display them in the patient’s rest room as an alternative to their office.
