Speculating on life without the Internet

by Matt Remley

Created on: November 04, 2010

In our lifetime there is one fact that is certain, the Internet is alive and here to stay. The Internet is in classrooms, in office buildings, and even at the local coffee shop. It is the very fiber of what it means to have freedom of will when using a computer, or needing to do research on anything imaginable.

How would life be without the Internet? That is an extremely hard question to answer, as the Internet is constantly evolving and with it the knowledge database inside of it. Without this massive database of information, how would mankind grow to new heights? Some people would just go back to using libraries, however not all information is obtainable within these.

♦Life♦

Mankind would most likely be at a technological stand still in many areas of science. People would still be communicating with land line telephones and radios. It is probable that cell phones would be the height of technology without a massive web of computers communicating to form a networks of communication.

Aside from that there are many issues the world would not know without the Internet. For instance currently with the Internet almost any world wide event is known of immediately through at least one website. It would truly be a sad and totally different world without the Internet, specially seeing as many people would never have met their soul mates without it.

♦Cultural Effects♦

It's also hard to think about how many people wouldn't even exist if the Internet weren't invented. The number is most likely more than people think, and that number would also effect mankind's future. How many family trees would be cut off, and how many children would never get a proper education without the use of the Internet?

All of this talk about living life without the Internet also leads to another point, it would effectively destroy some cultures. You see, on the Internet cultures thrive, change, and grow, but without it these cultures would probably die out. The same goes for teenage fads, films, television, gaming, computer technology, space exploration, and a full host of other things.

♦Conclusion♦

In conclusion to this mystery of living life without the Internet, there is no way to ever know the effects of such a matter. On one hand, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't have the Internet, but for so many it would. The Internet may be nothing more than a knowledge database, but it sure does have a grasp on us like non-other.
