If you want to write articles of sustaining value, you must keep working on them.

Since I joined Helium in January of 2007, I have found a great source of writing and creativity. It's an excellent resource to have a team of anonymous writers reading and judging your work.

One thing I have noticed is that many of the best Helium articles have been carefully written and edited. They demonstrate a writer has the attention span to truly polish their writing into a finished product that gains the attention of an audience.

You will have lasting value on Helium if readers consistently read your articles. Therefore, you must write the best articles in the most popular subjects, and keep those articles fresh. I have seen excellent articles will float between the top three positions in a subject, so success can be seen in consistent ratings.

I will detail my advice for writing consistently on Helium.com.

Firstly, write in an area that you know, but don't be afraid to expand your knowledge base. One of my best articles comes from a subject area that I initially knew little about.

Secondly, consider writing in one of these core areas: Money, Relationship Advice, and How-To Guides. These articles are always in demand.

People want to read the clearest and most interesting articles. Write a great article in a popular subject, and as people review the answers, it will rise to the top.

Read the articles in the top five spots. How can you make your article more interesting?
If there is some magical formula for having a consistent style, read what your competitors are doing.

Clean up all spelling and grammatical errors. Professional writing will shine through over amateurish drivel.

Add buzzwords to help search engines. If you are writing a technical article, make sure to use the correct terms. For example, you may want to include the technical specifications number for the product you are writing about.

Invite your friends and family to comment and help out. There's nothing like exposing your writing to your peers for review.

Don't be afraid to break the rules. An eye-catching first line may break all sorts of grammatical rules, but if it is the best way to express an idea, it is worthwhile to break the rule. Part of the internet writing style is, of course, salesmanship.

Finally, have some persistence. Keep plugging away until you have an article that remains consistently at the top. It may take weeks, but the feeling of seeing your articles at the top of a heap is certainly satisfying.
