Science fiction and fantasy movies have been some of the biggest box hits of all time. Avatar, E.T., Star Wars, and Lord Of The Rings have made hundreds of millions of dollars. DVDs in this category have sold well year round and there are some big hits being released this Christmas.

Predators

The latest in the Predator series in now available on DVD and will be a great addition to the library. Predators takes place on a planet where several earthlings have been dropped and used as bait for a hunt. There is plenty of action and suspense and fans of the series will not be disappointed with this entry.

Splice

Splice is about two scientists that combine the DNA of multiple organisms to create new species. When they mix in some human DNA, things get out of control and the resulting creature gets loose. Adrien Brody stars in this science gone wrong movie that resembles Species on the surface. A science fiction movie with plenty of scares.

The Last Airbender

The Last Airbender is the latest offering from M Night Shyamalan. It tells the story of a young avatar who must stop the Fire Nation from capturing the Earth, Air, and water nations. This 3D movie has mind boggling effects and plunges you into a mythical world where nature and gravity is not always what it seems to be. The movie performed below expectations at the box office but M Night Shymalans movies are always unique.

The Sorcerers Apprentice

Nicolas Cage plays a master sorcerer who recruits a regular human to save New York City from the evil Maxim Horvath. Cage has to give his accomplice a crash course in the arts of magic to help him become a worthy fighter to defeat the forces of darkness. The special effects are spectacular and watching the sorcerers do battle on the city streets is an entertaining way to spend the afternoon. An enjoyable romp from the Disney studios that is fun for the whole family.

Inception

Leonardo DiCaprio stars in this tale where people can enter the human mind by invading their dreams. One final job seems to come with danger and treachery at every turn. This movie has mind boggling special effects and action sequences that will have you on the edge of your seat. The movie is like a cross between Dreamscape and The Matrix. This movie will be a huge seller this Christmas and will be an excellent stocking stuffer for those that like action packed science fiction movies.
