One of the most used rooms in our homes is our bathroom. Whether you entertain guests or just host your family this is one of the places they will visit the most in your home. You would like to keep it looking great with all the latest and beautiful bath accessories that you can. This could get expensive after a while. Just like any other remodel project we do not want it to break the bank. A bathroom remodel could become very expensive. Let us take a look at a few tips that could save you money when it comes to this remodeling task.
Resurface instead of replace your tubs and tiles.
Maybe you have a tub that is built in with a tile surround. This could pose a huge problem if you want to replace your tub with a new tub. This is a huge task that could run into the thousands of dollars. You can resurface the tub and surrounding tile to change the color or give them a new sparkle. You can also use this same method for resurfacing your lavatories to match. After you resurface add a new toilet to match and you have just saved a ton of money to use for the rest of your renovation. Maybe you have a vintage claw foot tub that you refuse to get rid of. It is a great tub but looks like crap. This particular method will make it as good as new.
Add drapes to any windows that you may have in your bath.
Most of the baths that you see have blinds on the windows. This will also add color to that new bath that you are trying so hard to bring new life to. Thrift store or salvage store are an excellent source for this type of renovation. Used? So what a little trip to the cleaners will keep money in your pocket and your new drapes are as good as new saving you money.
Add trim to your bath.
Think about adding things such as crown molding and baseboards. You could paint these with a bright trim color to add even more color. Also consider wainscoating to add a little different look. Also add wall mount shelfs to give your walls a little more of a different look.
Furniture style vanity.
Tear out your old vanity cabinets and make a curvy and different looking sink cabinet out of an old desk. Choose one with deep filing drawers for toiletries. Cutout the top for your sink and look at that great looking cabinet. You can usually buy these desks at thrift stores or flea markets or even garage sales.
Check on prefab counter tops out of marble and some other materials.
Your local home building supply store will have a selection of these to choose from. The reason these tops or good bargains is because the sink usually comes built in to these tops .
Update the storage or medicine cabinets that you have.
Put a fresh coat of paint and add new hinges and pulls for that special look you are looking for. Also a mirrored cabinet is a huge plus.
Add accessories for that sparkle you are looking for.
Add matching metal towel holders such as chrome towel bars and rings. A salvage store or flea market is an excellent source to look for that special piece.
Change lighting fixture.
You could hang a chandelier for a bit of unexpected sophistication. A brass or crystal fixture will add greatly to that special bath you are now creating. Again flea market or salvage store is great help here.
Bold paint.
Don’t be afraid to experiment till you fin that special color. Use different combinations until they work with each other. Be sure to use a kitchen or bath paint.
Add wallpaper.
Use a washable paper. Add color and pattern with coated wallpaper that’s easy to clean and can stand up to high humidity.
These are just a few ideas to help you save money and get that fresh new look.
