Salem, Massachusetts is located about 45 minutes north of Boston.  Salem attracts many tourists each year.  It is an old city; one of the oldest in the United States.  It is most famous for the Salem Witch Trials which took place there in the late 1600’s.  Many people flock to the city to study this part of history. Others visit because Salem is a lovely town with many other historical venues such as 19th century writer, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s house.

There is also a romantic atmosphere in Salem; perhaps because it’s a city that sits right on the water.  Visit any number of public docks and you can watch sailboats sailing through Salem Harbor and the lure of the gulls over head provides a great atmosphere for romance.  If you find yourself visiting Salem and you find yourself swept up in romance here are a few restaurants that you may want to try. 

The Rockmore Floating Restaurant

The Rockmore Floating Restaurant isn’t typically what you think of when you think of a romantic restaurant but it offers diners a one of a kind experience.  The Rockmore Floating Restaurant is the only permanently moored restaurant in the United States.  It sits in the middle of Salem Harbor. 

Diners may take a romantic boat ride out to the restaurant from the public dock on Congress Street.  The Rockmore Floating restaurant is open from Memorial Day until Labor Day.  The Rockmore is open from May 27th throught September 5th 2011. 

The Rockmore cooks diners’ food right in the middle of the harbor and diners may enjoy a full bar, burgers, lobsters or anything else that they may eat at a restaurant downtown. 

 Nathaniel’s

Nathaniel’s is located in the Hawthorne Hotel in downtown Salem.  Nathaniel’s is what most people will typically think of when they think of a romantic restaurant.  Upscale American dining is accompanied by classical music and candlelight.  A piano bar is open Thursday through Saturday.  For more information about Nathaniel’s visit the restaurant’s website at http://www.hawthornehotel.com/. 

 Finz

Finz is a popular seafood restaurant in and around the entire Boston area.  It may not be your typical romantic restaurant but it is more for a couple looking to have romantic fun.  At Finz diners may enjoy upscale dining with amazing views.  There is optional waterfront seating.  Finz offers diners many specialty drinks, a raw bar and live music on Thursday and Friday nights.  For more information about Finz visit the restaurant’s website at http://www.hipfinz.com/.

There are many other romantic restaurants just outside of Salem. The Boston metro area is just minutes away and there are many more upscale restaurants closer to Boston’s city limits.  If you are visiting Salem don’t be afraid to venture out to many of the other little towns and villages near Salem.  Romance is alive and well in Massachusetts.
