Poetry: Independence

by L. S. Mcfadden

Created on: November 02, 2010

Declaration of Dependence

The bell of liberty will toll

And bring us to attention

The dollar wields this nation’s soul

Words we dare not mention

We declare we’re independent

Our call to fame

But only if we’re wealth’s descendent

Can we make this claim

Dependent on our job or skill

Shackles on our fate

Imprisoned by the dollar bill

A prison with no gate

Independence is transcendent

We may never know

We are only an attendant

Of this life – this show
