Fought for my baby's freedom in the war,
Returning only to find her grown and
Engaged to a man who stole her freedom more
Each day. Her husband now. I could have
Died defending her from foreign harm, but the marks
On her come from friendly fire. The war is over, and
My pistol cannot trade my freedom for hers.
