Top Ubuntu music players (Linux)

Ever wanted to play music in Ubuntu, a Linux based operating system and wanted to know of the other music players for this wonderful platform? Luckily there is a variety of music and media players for Ubuntu, some of which were created by people who wanted more options and decided to simply make their own.

Most of these music players are completely free, open sourced, and easy to install. On top of that most of these can easily compare to Windows Media Player and other programs. That makes these Ubuntu based music players a very good option when switching from Microsoft's Windows to Ubuntu.

♦RhythmBox Music Player♦

Completely with streaming from a variety of websites, or custom streaming, RhythmBox is the music player that is included with most recent Ubuntu editions. RhythmBox also features store features where the user can purchase songs, and even link up to services such as Last.FM. Perhaps the best feature of RhythmBox is to hide it in the system tray and still listen to music.

♦Banshee♦

Another great music player within Ubuntu is Banshee, which has many great features including ripping CD's. The interface isn't as impressive as Windows Media Player, but it will suffice for those just wanting to play some music and not eat up resources. Banshee also includes the the features to burn tracks to CD's with the program itself.

♦SongBird♦

Although the developers behind SongBird no longer support the Linux branch of their product, SongBird is comparative to Windows Media Player is many ways. SongBird actually has the ability to show the lyrics of the song while it is playing, and it also displays news and biographies based on the music the user plays.

On top of that the SongBird player also has features for playing video files and a storefront for purchasing songs. It also doesn't leave those with MP3 players out in the cold, as it connectivity features for most of those devices. Be sure to give SongBird a try, after all it is free for Ubuntu and the community itself does seem to be keeping the program updated while the official developer works on Windows and Mac support.

♦Conslusion♦

While there many more music players within Ubuntu some of these are the best. SongBird is most likely the best option, and hopefully in the future the developer behind it will work on some more Linux and Ubuntu support. RhythmBox is also a very nice choice since it is already included within most recent editions of Ubuntu.
