Hottest actors of all time would have to include the names of those that are most noted for being sex symbols.  Assuming the article title is not speaking of people on fire, who never look very sexy, especially afterwards, we’ll look for the other kind of hotness.

The title implies nothing about their scandals, their political views, their tantrums, or even their talent at acting.  It also does not differentiate between male and female actors.  The term “actress” is sometimes used for female actors, and the term “actor” is also sometimes used for females. This extra little “ess” is a holdover from more sexist times.  This article will therefore assume that when the term actor is used it means both men and women, just as doctors are not called Doctor-ess, just for being female.  This is both old-fashioned, and stupid.

All that said, obviously the hottest actor of all time would have to be Marilyn Monroe.  She is never really noted for her acting skills, which were considerable.  She could also sing. She could dance, albeit not as well as professional dancers.  She could move, gesture, change countenance with subtlety, and she could steal scenes.  Yet, she is primarily known for one thing, being the number one sex symbol of the 20th century.  Yes, she is also very famous for looking for love in all the wrong places, such as the ball park, the theatre, and even the white house, but she was most pursued in that regard due to her very high profile hotness.

After Marilyn comes Marlon.  Marlon Brando was so steamy hot in his early films that people and censors went berserk.  In “A Street Car Named Desire” none of his blustering, hostile, cruel taunting, and down-right brutal ugliness distracted even the tiniest bit from his all screen-filling raw hotness.  It’s easy to be hot when you are romantic and sweet, or charming, like Johnny Depp.  But when you are a coarse bully who pulls and peels away any whiff of class, even while he pulls off his sweaty T- shirt, that IS really hot.

Hot actors numbers three and four, have to be admitted for their hotness in large part due to the chemistry they sparked when acting together.  Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall are steamy for this reason.  They fell in love on the set, and one could see it clearly.  Even when the plots such as “The Big Sleep”, are so convoluted, and confusing,
