Kongai is an online collectible card game created by David Sirlin, a game designer from California. The game can be played on Kongregate, an online game site.
Kongai was designed around the "rock-paper- scissors" mechanism, with certain actions in the game being designed to work well against certain other actions, but be useless against other sets of actions.Gameplay proceeds on a turn by turn basis, with each player choosing his or her action for that turn simultaneously.
At the start of the game, each player fields a team of 3 characters, who can be further customised by equipping them with a single item. Only a single character from each player's roster may be on the field at any given time, and the other characters are benched. Players are unable to tell which enemy characters your opponent possesses until that particular character has been fielded, at which point in time it will be revealed for the rest of the game, even if that character is switched out and benched later.
Turns occur in two phases, the maneuver phase and the attack phase.
During the maneuver phase, players choose to set the range. Closing the gap from far range to close range costs a character 50 energy, and likewise, for switching from close range to far range. Passing means your action does not determine the outcome for the maneuver phase, and if both players pass, the range at the beginning of the maneuver phase is maintained. If both players choose opposite actions, their actions are negated by each other. Different characters have different ranges at which they are more effective, and even here, the "rock-paper-scissors" concept begins to come into play. For example, player A begins a round at close range with Andromeda(a character who possesses only far range attacks) against another character. Player A could choose to go far with Andromeda, but if the other player closes the range, both actions are negated and it's still close range. Or he could pass, attempting to trick his opponent into closing range and wasting his energy.
For the attack phase, there's a number of actions that each player can make, although they can only choose one per round.
Firstly, there's the unique attacks that each character possess, and which will consume "energy" when being used. These attacks typically either damage your opponent, or buff or debuff characters.
Next there's the switch action, which swaps your character for another character of your choice on your bench, and prevents the character being
