A good question, if ever there was one. BUT.......fat chance of any kind of objective answer. A few of us observant types, and by "observant types" I mean the few folks who actually WATCH, LISTEN, and OBSERVE before making a decision (while most just tow the media and PC police party line), have noticed a strange, and universally ignored, but very unappealing phenomena. Said phenomena being the popular conception of the American male as some sort of half-retarded boy-child, incapable of even a simple task.....were it not for the noble, and saintly woman, the American male archtype wouldn't even be able to make it out of bed....right? So....is this too harsh an indightment?
Maybe, maybe not. But any person, male or female has seen such great shows like "Everybody loves Raymond, King of Queens, Family Matters, The World According to Jim" and dozens more. The one thing these shows have in common is the lovable, but clueless man, who consistantly lies to, dissapoints, ignores his wife/girlfriend/mate. And the all-knowing, all-forgiving woman always shows him the error of his ways.....and we all laugh and say "that's soooooo true!" right? Gosh, I don't see too many shows that don't cast a man as an emotionaly stunted, irresponsible buffoon. I don't see too many shows portraying men as breaking their backs every day to provide for their loved ones. Don't see too many shows about men working themselves to an early grave to provide for their families. But THAT is closer to the truth than the pop-culture stereotype that is jammed down our throats on a regular basis.
Ladies.......WE GET IT.....you struggled for a few generations to get an equal say, and that is admirable, but let's not go overboard, and make man-bashing the accepted, and lauded pasttime it is today.
There are myriad books, texts, etc... out there today, trying to teach some sort of inter-gender understanding right? We've all seen them, most of you ladies have read more than one. They all espouse the same doctrine: Women, are divine, forgiving, understanding, infinitly complex creatures, and it is incumbent upon a man, to understand, to relate, to empathize with a woman's emotional patterns. That will bring you closer to your mate, and make you a better man....right? So....Uhhhhhh where are the books that tell women that empathy is a 2-way thing, and maybe they should try to understand their men? Yeah, those books are few and far between.
This nation has shifted it's paradigm of schism......it hasn't
