The Bible tells us that there was only one perfect man, Jesus. He was also tempted, just like we are. The difference is that Jesus had a direct line to God, we don't. God doesn't expect us to be perfect, he knows that is impossible. What he does expect, is for us to try to maintain a christian lifestyle. For many of us, including me, this is a constant struggle. Daily, I am faced with issues that make me teeter on the edge of sin, whether this would be my thoughts, actions, or non-actions. How many times have you passed a homeless person on the corner only to drive by without making eye contact? It's happened to you and me. I wonder if they really are homeless or if they are just lazy. The point is that it doesn't really matter. Our duty, as christians, is to help those in need. if it turns out that the person we are helping is a fraud, that's on them, not us.
Have you ever seen the bumper sticker that reads, "I'm not perfect, just forgiven?" There is a vast amount of truth in this statement. We are going to sin, there is no way around this. The important part is that you ask forgiveness and always try to do the right thing and you don't continue to do the wrong thing. Pray consistently, not just when your in trouble. God hears your prayers and answers them more than you know. Be thankful for what you have. Look around you, there are others that are much worse off than you. Be considerate of others and help those that are less fortunate. You don't have to give money, sometimes all that is needed is a kind word.
Do I always do these things I have said? No. I have been guilty of being too busy to help those that need it. I don't attend church as much as I should. I have impure thoughts. Am I proud of these mistake? No. I have guilt. I believe it is God raising an eyebrow at me, letting me know that I'm not acting in a christian manner. There is no going back and fixing the mistakes, so I do the next best thing. I pray and ask for forgiveness. It's not easy to be a christian, but it's not hard either. Just have faith in God and the rest will work itself out, if you let it.
