Let's start with being positive about everything going on in life before negative situations cause stress. More than likely you have already experienced stress surrounding the reason for unemployment and budgeting. No need to add to the stress by thinking life stops after a job ends or that unemployment is going to be a bad time for you. The mind set is key to keeping a great lifestyle while unemployed and job searching. Many others have probably suggested the whole "mind over matter" idea and the reason for that is that it simply is true. Focus on enjoying your time unemployed and get excited about the challenge of budgeting the situation. Once you have decided to get out of the negative mindset and take on the conflict head on its much easier.
The first thing a newly unemployed person has to do is right up a new budget immediately! The new budget must be carefully planned to include the new bottom line of spending for the week and month. This budget is actually easier than the employed budget because at least you know exactly what you make a week. The next step is equally important and that is to make sure the lifestyle follows the budget. You cannot really believe that going to the movies every week is going to fit in the new budget. Think about it this way; if you got a new house would you use the same amount of water as when you lived in an apartment? The answer is "NO", so don't make a budget and continue to try and live on a previous budget.
The third and biggest step is to have fun! Yes; have fun with the new time flexibility to explore free seminars, free shows, volunteer, mentor, and pursue your dreams more. With this new time flexibility never forget that you new job is to find a job this is the final step. Dedicate a set amount of time to finding employment, perfecting your resume, and honing interview skills EVERY DAY! You must search for employment every day without fail. The only way to begin work again is to never truly stop working. The key to all of these steps is maintaining a positive outlook on life. As long as unemployed time is not the worst time of your life you will survive. Unemployment may not be the best time but it can be a good time if you do it right.
