Poetry: By faith

         The Fallen King

I sit on my throne and brood on my past.
 My kingdom has fallen apart and so has my castle;
fallen into disrepair. I am nothing and I have nothing.
I have ruled fairly and justly and have been forgiving.
My armor, once shining bright, has become corroded
My sword, once shining and sharp, has all but crumbled.
I am a king yet I am a pauper. Who could imagine?
My people bring me food each day because I can't afford servants
I do not tax the people now, there is no reason.
They are good to me and that lets me know I was a good ruler.
You are measured here by your past deeds, good or bad
If you did good deeds then you will have many people love you
If you did bad things then in your last days expect cruelty.
I can barely walk but I try. I still have to go to the toilet
My back is crooked and twisted from sitting on my throne so long.
So I sit and brood, on what, you now know.
One day the last grain of sand will drop from my hourglass
And I will be forever dead.
I do not worry about that day because when It comes
I know I will be judged fairly.
