Biography: Josh Sundquist

by L. A. Brown

Created on: October 31, 2010

We have all grown up admiring our own versions of a super hero. For some it was fictional characters such as Superman or Batman. Others chose police officers and fire fighters. Then there are the starry eyes who admire actors and singers. But what about the average men and women who never chose to be a hero and perhaps don’t even see themselves that way at all? They are the ones who by no choice of their own, were faced with a decision to either fall down and wallow or keep going strong. They chose not only to be strong but to pass on that strength to others who could or needed to benefit from it. Josh Sundquist is one of those people. A true hero not just for what he had to endure in his life but for how he helps teach others learn to cope with whatever “bull” life throws at them. Josh is a cancer survivor, ex-paralympian, motivational speaker, You Tube sensation and now with his new book “Just Don’t Fall” an international best selling author.

Josh was born August 6, 1984 in Williamsburgh, VA to his parents Paul and Linda Sundquist and has 2 brothers and 1 sister. When he was 9 years old he dreamed of growing up to be a professional soccer player just so he could wear an awesome uniform.  How quickly a life can be turned upside down and inside out when at the age of 10 after experiencing tremendous pain in his leg,  he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and given a 50% chance to live. He endured chemotherapy treatments and had his left leg amputated. 6 years later he was given a clean bill of health and voila…..cancer survivor.

But his story does not end there….in fact it is only just beginning. For the one thing most important to Josh Sundquist is not to be looked upon as merely a cancer survivor and amputee but as a person with many strengths, goals and an amazing sense of humor who has a lot to offer the world.

At 16 years old, he gave his first motivational talk and has been speaking to groups ever since. He is now a nationally recognized speaker and continues to present to groups around the United States. Sundquist's audiences and clients have included Wal-Mart, The White House, RE/MAX, Boy Scouts of America, YPO, and Children's Miracle Network.

Still holding onto the dream of being able to wear a uniform, he took up ski racing. When he was 17 he moved to Colorado to pursue the sport full time He trained and competed for the next six years and in 2006 he was named to the US Paralympic
