Driving a cab can be hard work navigating busy roads in all weathers, night and day. Drivers never know the type of person they are going to pick up. Passengers range from the bad tempered and impatient who blame the cabbie for every traffic jam they encounter, to those who have had such a good night out they no longer remember where they live. If you have a cab driver in your life who is on your gift list you may well like to gift them something job related as they spend so many hours in their cab.

A fantastic gift idea is to present your cab driver friend with a set of napkins to hand out to those awkward late at night passengers. As someone bundles the late night partygoer into the back of their cab the driver can hand them a napkin to complete with the destination of the passenger. The passenger can tick the appropriate place to “look for my cash in”, with options such as my bag, my socks, my bra, my boxer shorts. This will prove very helpful when the cabbie deposits their comatose passenger at their destination.

A wonderful and thoughtful gift would be something to ease the strain of sitting in one spot for so long, leading to stiffness and aching muscles. A gel seat cushion would alleviate the discomfort of sitting so long and offers therapeutic benefits to cab drivers. Opt for one filled with soft honeycomb gel to ease your cab drivers working hours.

A pair of leather driving gloves would be sure to go down a treat, as would a thick warm scarf, or a cab driver furry hat to keep the head nice and cosy. A thick hooded sweatshirt emblazoned with “The World’s Best Cabby” will go down well on cold days. In the summer the cabbie may well prefer the coolness of a pair of boxer shorts decorated with the slogan “Cab Drivers Make Better Lovers.”

Choose a t shirt with a cabbie themed slogan such as “Instant Taxi Driver, Just Add Coffee.” Themed slogans can be found on BBQ aprons, tote bags, calendars, teddy bears, caps and mugs. Taxi drivers may well appreciate a DVD of the classic Robert De Niro film ‘Taxi Driver’. If they already have it opt for a t shirt with the classic film slogan “Are You Talking to Me?”

A ceramic coffee tumbler with a gasket sealed lid, designed to fit in the taxi’s cup holder, is sure to be a hit, ensuring the drivers coffee stays hotter for longer. Another great coffee mug for cabbies has the appropriate slogan “Proud to be a careful, driving, courteous, tip appreciating, map reading, friendly Taxi driver.” It probably sums up your cab driving friend to a tee.

Finally the ultimate gift for a cab driver would be to treat them to a night out with a cab drive home at the end, allowing the cabbie to driven in style for a change, rather than always being the one behind the wheel.
