I am just another Mom of teenagers, who is jumping on the band wagon with writer #1 Amy. I was glad to see an article with a different spin. As adults we are quick to talk about what the teens are doing in a negative sense, and the positive things go unmentioned..sometimes.
I have raised my own teenagers, and three step-children as well. True...they are not perfect, and they do have flaws, but, they are wonderful too. Although my step-children are grown, and their father and I are no longer together, they still stay in contact with me, and help out. My step-daughter still actually lives with me.
I have two teenaged sons that still live at home as well. My children and I have a great line of communication, whereas though we can talk about anything, and everything together. The bond that we have, I adopted from my parents throughout the years. To this day, my dad and I still have that bond, and I am sure that if my Mom were still alive, the same would apply to her and I.
It's just a matter of allowing your teens the opportunity to voice their oppinions about different situation, even to the point where you can ask their advice about things. Teens ahve a pretty good perspective on some subjects.
