Senior citizens lead very different lives today than those of their ancestors.  Instead of calmly rocking back and forth on a rocking chair, many seniors are enjoying their golden years by being actively involved in their communities.  Some seniors are getting their university degrees for the first time and others are traveling the world at leisure.  Today’s seniors have seen many societal changes and they are more open-minded to trying new things and finding new love interests.  Whether a senior citizen is widowed, divorced or has never been married, there are plenty of options for romance.

Senior social groups

There are social groups for seniors in most large cities and retirement residences.  Social groups for seniors boast many activities like field trips, exercise classes and classes for learning how to use a computer.  The potential for finding a potential love partner in senior social groups is high, but even if a love match isn’t found, good friendships can be built. 

Matchmaking services

Although computers and dating websites are useful for connecting people, many seniors are not comfortable using or don’t know how to use computers.  Matchmaking services are ideal for seniors who want a more personal touch with finding a love match.  A matchmaker will arrange dinner events, group outings and other activities for their clients to increase the chances of them making a love connection.  Matchmakers will also work with a client one on one to help them find an appropriate partner.  Some matchmakers give their clients style makeovers to help them improve their self confidence and appearance.  Contact information for Matchmaking companies can be found on the Internet or in the telephone book.

Seniors who are joining the dating scene again may not have dated in years, but there is no age limit for starting new relationships.  Seniors who have recently been widowed will understandably be mourning the loss of their spouses but they should pay careful attention not to talk about their previous marriage too much while on a date.  Hearing about your new love interest’s long history with their deceased spouse is not something anyone wants to be compared to, no matter what their age.  Talking too much about personal health problems and mortality will also make a date uncomfortable.  Instead, seniors should make an effort to look their best and be on their most pleasant behavior.  Senior citizens who have an open-minded and joie de vivre attitude towards dating will have more successful relationship results than those who don’t.
