The Love Between Them

Setting: Midwestern College (Attwoods Private School for Troubled Girls)
Characters: Kim 18 Brittney 19 Students
Mrs Brennar - Guidance Counselor

Background: Kim from midsized Ohio rural community, Brittney big city girl west coast LA
Roommates for 2 semesters.

(Scene opens - two girls seated at Mrs Brennar's desk)

Mrs Brennar: You girls are two of a kind. Roommates for some time and don't have a clue of each other.

Kim: Brit is Lib Arts, not interested, not me. We have no classes or curic together.

Mrs Brennar: Doesn't matter, You need to open up the tension is not helping either of you.
(Looks to Brittney)> What about you Brittney? Whats you're story?

(Brittney shrugs; looks to the floor).>

Mrs Brennar: Dismissed. Get together, talk and maybe you do have a common thread.

(Two girls stand and begin to exit the door).>

Mrs Brennar: Soon!

(Girls exit consueling offices, one left one right).>

Scene change: (That evening dorm room of Kim and Brittney, now in full personal conversation, continuing)>

Brit; Long and short of it. Mom and Dad doing some inner city stuff. Ya know?
Police report said rival gang did not take kindly to 'Whitie' doing their thing in the hood.

(Brittney catches her breath and looks to Kim again)>

Brit: A banger wanted the Mercedes hood emblem. its a gang thing. -

Kim: When was this?

Brit: It's been two years and guess who's been in trouble since. Shrink says I need to get closure. Can't just mend, takes time. No meds.

Kim: (nods)> No meds?

Brit: Anyway they were always so great together. They had this thing between themselves, a bond, a relationship. Even as an only child I was not let fully in to aspects of their love. They had a oneness, (pauses contemplative) I miss that, seeing, feeling the... (trails off, falling silent head down)

Kim: (jumps in)> Go on! Where'd Ya Go?

Brit: (catches herself regaining composure)> Aunt Ali;  Mom's older sister. She and her husband have quite an unhappy, loveless marriage, no kids.

 
Kim: Why'd you say that? Loveless?

Brit: Two sisters, so close and so opposite: No contact no hugs, kisses and only feigned smiles.

Kim: Just to you?

Brit: Nah. Seemed always, even before that day!

Kim: But they took you...

Brit: (interrupts)> Didn't really want me, cramped their, no kids, independent style.

Kim: Why here? Why Attwoods?

Brit: Seems; (snobish accent) "Auntie" spent some time here years ago. Had connections.
