When someone has the ability to write and write well, it definitely is a gift, although the downfalls may be a curse at times. While actors may be a dime a dozen, no two writers are alike in what they have to say nor how they write about it. The beauty of article-writing is the potential to achieve excellence but when this falls short of perfection, good writers continue to write, in search of the Holy Grail.
People can be divided into two camps: those whose lives are ruled by numbers and those who are dictated by words and the love of language. While numbers can play a finite game, the semantics of words are endless. For a writer who discovers oil, the well gushes for days, releasing a torrent of expressions and ideas that can only be captured on the written page or computer screen.
Even though there are more ups than downs for writers, it is definitely a down when time is limited to write, wherever and whenever a writer pleases. For those who have a day job, having time to write is a luxury all would like to have. At times it is a downer when one needs to write but is restricted by writer's block, for whatever reason. Often a writer is limited in the freedom he/she has about the knowledge he/she knows. As it may involve those closest to them, the challenge is to place characters and situations into objectivity and anonymity, in order to protect the innocent.
Writing is a gift when it brings out the multi-faceted aspects of a person's character or personality. Writers are lifelong learners, avid readers, social analysts, philosophers, psychologists, teachers and story tellers. Writing has the ability to change introverts into extroverts, a classical Jekyll and Hyde syndrome. On the printed page, there is more time to think, and the more one writes, the more one becomes empowered through the strength of words.
Writing is a psychic gift because writers see the world in a totally different perspective from others. Theirs is a totally visual world, as writers are often visual learners. In their mind's eyes, they see vignettes and pictures, waiting be painted and portrayed by words on a blank page.
The romance of writing is the opportunity to be a lifelong learner; keeping up with the latest trends, the newest gadgets, a better and best way of doing things. In essence writers are the world's watchdogs. The writing network is a connective one, much like a spiderweb, collecting bits of information, caught and stuck to the world-wide-web.
The gift of writing has ability to stimulate millions of brain cells with the magic of words, ideas, and ideals. How can a writer ever develop dementia as long as creativity and the imagination are continually at play, day in and day out?
Writing gives the writer an opportunity to examine and explore one's soul. One becomes one's own therapist, keeping daily journals, recording what is seen and heard. Writing gives one food for thought. As long as there are writers, there will be thinkers, and that is what makes the world go round.
