Best online art galleries

The World Wide Web has many silky threads. Among these threads there exists a window to a world of beauty, emotion and possibilities one might not otherwise know...the world of fine art. A key word search can bring up many possibilities to the waiting eye. For instance the key words "on-line galleries" brought up pages and pages of possibilities.

One of the intriguing "galleries" to pop up was Espanica a company specializing in Latin American antiquities. It is more of a high end decor company than a gallery. However there are some exquisite pieces in their fine art link. There are a couple of pieces from Blanca Ruth that are absolutely fabulous in their movement and expression.

A site used as by art history students world wide is Olga's Gallery. Anyone with a love for art could easily spend hours on this site. Not only do you get to see the artists' work you get to research the artists and their time. There are volumes on the history of most of the artists represented on the site.

You cannot go wrong with the bigger names in galleries. One look at the National Gallery of Art's site has paid meticulous attention to detail. All you have to do is click on a collection tour and you get to see the pieces but you also get a paragraph or so of information to go along with the collection. It's like having your own personal docent following you around.

And the mother of all art museums, the Louvre, also has a site which encompasses every "European school from the 13th century to 1848." One of the not so surprising features is the thematic link. It's not surprising in that the Da Vinci Code did a good job planting conspiracy firmly in the art world. (However, if anyone takes just one class of art history Dan Brown's effort is just another link in a very long chain.) The site is not nearly as user friendly as the National Gallery's site but, still, how can you pass up the Louvre?
