Weekend getaways at home are fun to plan, and are a relaxing way for adults to spend time with each other. Any of the following home getaway ideas can be combined with a simple string of Christmas lights. Hang them in the house, in a bedroom, around a shade canopy, tent, camper or porch for romantic lighting. For inside or outside use removable hooks, clothespins or reused twist ties. Consider shutting off the electronics during any these getaways, such as cell phones, computers, and other distractions. These weekend getaway ideas are economical, romantic and enjoyable!
In-Bed Getaway
Begin a movie night getaway at home by visiting a movie rental store, kiosk, or library for movies. Collect several of them. Hold hands and kiss each other. So often, adults, especially those with children, become so absorbed in responsibilities that romancing is simply not thought about. Before heading back home, visit the grocery store for ingredients to make your favorite meal. Return home and start the “getaway” by preparing your meal together, and taking it to your bedroom. Eat dinner, watch movies, and enjoy your “getaway” at home in bed.
If you have children, consider having a separate dinner time for them and provide them with appropriate movies in a different room in the house.
Camp Out Getaway
Set up a tent, or pull the camper to the backyard. Build a fire to cook over and camp out together for a home getaway. Another idea is to simply sleep in sleeping bags under the stars without a tent. Wake up early and watch the sunrise together.
If you have children, provide them with their own tent, or hire a babysitter to watch the children indoors. It’s difficult to really enjoy a home getaway with interruptions from younger children. Consider asking extended family to volunteer to take them for a night or two.
Patio Getaway
Prepare a meal and serve it on the patio or porch, with candlelight. If you do not have outdoor furniture, consider taking a small table from indoors to the patio/porch. Cover the table with a table cloth; add candles, fresh flowers and tableware.
Grill Out Getaway
Grill a meal outdoors, and enjoy it together any time of day. If you have a pool or hot tub, continue your getaway by lounging or swimming, and enjoy it with a glass of wine or non-alcoholic drink. Hang candle chandeliers in trees or on tables outdoors for a romantic evening.
Picnic and Sunset Getaway
Put together a basket of food. Include a favorite beverage and eat picnic style in the yard. Have your picnic during sunset and watch it together. Consider the temperature outdoors, and include memorable drinks and food choices. For example, a chilly night may be just the right time to make a thermos of homemade hot chocolate.
Fireside Getaway
Prepare a home cooked meal or order a meal in, and light an indoor fireplace. If you do not have a fireplace or wood burning stove, many stores sell videos of virtual fireplaces. Your local library may also have one you can borrow. Eat your meal on the floor, picnic style, in front of the fireplace. Listen to your favorite music and enjoy talking to one another. Make popcorn or a homemade snack.
Adults, whether having hectic and busy lives from work hours or raising children, need time together to rejuvenate and restore a healthy well being. Rekindle a relationship on a budget, with frugal and romantic home getaways.
