There is probably no night of celebration that has as many violations of Christian principles as does Halloween.
Forget about how professed Christians celebrate it...how do satanists celebrate it? They perform blood sacrifices and witches (the real ones) quietly celebrate with prayer circles and meals for the dead. To whom are their prayers directed? Who do you think? The fact that satanists have professed Christians celebrating their most sacred day with them makes them very happy. Is this an appealing thought to you? Should Christians engage in glorifying or even trivialising all things evil?
It is an intriguing concept, taking some foreign celebration in honor of pagan gods or goddesses and renaming it to make it appear to be an acceptable way to honor God or Christ. The question has to be asked...does it? Do we have any idea why we do this, or is it just easy to go along with the masses and ignore the wider implications? We all know how humans view it but how do God and Christ feel about it?
The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 6:14-18..." 14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, (the devil) or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. "Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord. "AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you. "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty." (NASV)
If we examine these words closely, it leaves us in no doubt as to what position a Christian should take with regard to things related to devil worship and false religious celebrations from paganism.
Did you notice God's words in verse 17? We were told to remove ourselves from their company, NOT move in with them. We are told NOT to "touch what is unclean' (spiritually speaking) in God's sight. Only those who shun such company will be "welcomed" by God. Do we want to make ourselves unwelcome by him?
Think again before you dismiss this occasion as harmless fun. It celebrates and exalts all the things the Bible condemns. (Deut 18:10-12)
Paul also brings out another point in 1 Corinthians 10:21, "You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons." (NASV)
Halloween is clearly a partaking of the table of the demons, regardless of the protestations and justifications of those who wish to perpetuate it for whatever reason.
It epitomises all things demonic and celebrates all things ghastly. Can we see Jesus advocating such a thing? When he said to the Pharisees, "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father." (John 8:44)
Who is our "father" if we imitate those who worship the devil?
Apart from its commercial aspects, (another way to milk the public) it is clearly one of those things that should be shunned by Christians if we are serious about pleasing God. This is not harmless fun people...it goes much deeper than that.
