Youths lacking compassion will find it difficult to look into the eyes of others and guilt comes knocking in. Believe it or not, in this new millennium youths prefer watching a pregnant woman standing in a crowded bus, to standing up and offering her a seat. The reason is because they don't know the lady, so why should they give her their seat? Imagine what will become of patients if doctors start asking,” Why must I treat you if I don't know you?”
There were the days of war, brutality, and cruelty. The words power, dominance, death, and murder were on the lips of commoners, as the words of hello, morning, goodbye and sorry are on the lips of today's generation. Despite bloody roads filled with corpses, stories of people and children showing a little compassion towards others never faded as years rolled by. From Hitler's ruling to the invasion of the Japanese in Asia, many were forced through the doors of graves, thousands of lives were vanquished from Earth, and in every thousand stories we hear, there are at least one to ten survivors who share their story with the world of how a stranger's compassion gave them another day to live.
Sadly, our youth today simply lack that kind of compassion. In today's world, for youths to lend a hand to their own parents seems more like a burden to them than a responsibility. They become more engaged toward materialism and the race toward finding the most amount of money, that simple life values are no more than an awkward approach to life. Compassion should be coming from a sincere heart, the moment where the heart senses trouble in another’s eyes and develops an unexplainable desire to help.
Youths tend not to understand the sort of relief behind compassion as their high degree of egoism does not tumble easily. They prefer not to enroll themselves in any activities involving compassion or care, being afraid that this kind of stuff may actually bring down their image and portray them as weak individuals among their circle of friends. Compassion has to be built on its own, and youth today still have a long way to go to understand how important it is for them to be compassionate about other people. The future of tomorrow's world will be in their fist, and they will lead their own children someday into a new era of society. Furthermore, if compassion is not a part of tomorrow's society, then we should consider ourselves heartless souls.
