Jesus was not politically correct.  As a result he was crucified.  It is legitimate to expect Christians to be as politically incorrect as Jesus - if they are to live according to his example.  Christians are to be crucified in Christ.  Political correctness requires, like Simon Peter, that followers deny certain elements of Christianity to coexist with the world in order to avoid “being crucified” by it.

“Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and give unto God that which is God’s.”  In the words of Christ we are commanded to separate our political and our religious practices.  We cannot be both politically correct and Christ like.  Although commanded to be good citizens, by following the laws of the land, Christians are reminded they also live within a spiritual context, separate from the laws of man.   The dual responsibilities of citizen of the world and follower of Christ often lead to personal and social conflict.  Being politically correct requires placing the practices of social conformity above the ideals of Christian teaching.

There is significant confusion among believers regarding how to define Christian ideals, though. We often here people pose the question, “What would Jesus do?”  It is difficult to define what Jesus would do since we have very limited information about his life.  Christianity is defined mainly by the ideals of the Apostle Paul, not those of Christ, as many followers believe.  Hence, it is more difficult than most realize identifying what constitutes “Christian ideals.”  It is difficult separating the teachings of Christ from the teachings of Judaism from the teachings of the Apostle Paul.

Jesus was a Jew, not a “Christian.”  Historical evidence supports that his efforts demanded Jewish leaders return to the practices of Abraham and David.  The end result was he found himself “politically incorrect,” in the eyes of both Roman and Jewish leadership.  It was not his intention to create a new religion as many believe, but in opposing Jewish leadership he found himself in conflict both with Judaism and Roman rule over Judaism.

Christian ideals are those that evolved decades after the life and death of Jesus.  The movement of Christianity evolved from a rebellion against the Jewish leadership of Jesus’ time into a Jewish rebellion
