Testimonies: The struggles of motherhood

The struggles of motherhood...there are too many to name and too many to even think about. There is struggle in all of our lives, whether mothers, fathers, grandparents, uncles, or aunts. The world is full of danger and heart ache, but there are times when a few joyful moments can wipe away years full of struggle.

I may sound a bit gloomy today but my feelings are strong and justified, you see I am a mother of a child with food allergies.

Every day is a battle.
Every day is filled with constant decision making such as whether or not to leave the safety of my home to go on a play date. An innocent play date that could potentially take his life. Not every mom understands the risks and fears mothers feel when they have a child with food allergies. Happy little toddlers running around, laughing, moms drinking coffee talking about how they wish they could loose weight or that their husbands do not help out enough, then BOOM! Some kid drops his snicky snacks on the floor which was made on shared equipment as well as contains a trace of milk, soy or nuts.

Every day I fight to keep him healthy, happy, and eating! Every day I am thankful to have him and my daughter to bring those small little bright faces up close to mine and flash me those smiles and giggles that makes motherhood a true joy. Struggles or not when those babies look at you and their little hands hold your face as if to say,"My Mommy is the best in the whole world," it makes every battle worth fighting. Even if exhaustion has set in, your role and responsibility remains.

Things have come a long way for kids with food allergies, but it is hard for most to comprehend that an innocent gold fish cracker could send my child to the ER. Is there any hope for a day without worry, will he be responsible when he is old enough to go to school, will I ever have peace of mind?

One can only pray and wish because the struggles of motherhood make us the excellent mothers we are today and in the future. Without struggle there is no room for growth and I want to grow into the best mom that I can be....I just want a few miracles along the way.
