Home based businesses have become hugely popular and successful for many good reasons.  Depending on what kind of business you wish to start, working your business from the comforts of your home can save you time and money.  When your workplace is outside of your home you need to factor in additional money that needs to be spent on renting the building and buying equipment that you may already have at home.  If you choose to run your business from home you are eliminating having to pay two mortgage payments (one on your home and one on your office space) as well as saving money spent on commuting to work.  Money you usually spend on maintaining your home such as telephone and utility bills, mortgage payments and landscaping costs can be written off in your taxes as business expenses.  

In workplace settings outside of the home there are ample opportunities for drama and strife to occur between coworkers and upper management.  Home based businesses are ideal for people who yearn to work alone and who are frustrated dealing with gossipy co-workers and overbearing bosses.  When you run a home based business your time is your own and you are in complete control over how your business is run and who you want to work with.

When you work outside of the home you are spending more time away from your family than you would prefer.  Running a home based business will enable you to see your family on a more regular basis and possibly eliminate having to hire child care workers to look after your kids.  Being your own boss also means that family vacations can be taken when it is convenient for you and your family; you won’t need to get a boss’ permission or risk getting reprimanded for traveling at an inconvenient time for the company. 

Money and time saved on transportation, clothing and dining costs are huge advantages to starting your own home based business.  No more fighting rush hour traffic to get to work on time; just stroll over to your home office and get to work.  The temptations to eat lunch at restaurants are reduced when you work from home because your refrigerator with fresh food and leftovers inside is close by.  

Working from home also provides many health benefits for people who have medical problems.  Doctor appointments can be made at your convenience and working hours can be structured around times when you feel most comfortable.  The emotional health benefits from working from home are limitless; the independence and feelings of pride and accomplishment that come from successfully blending your home and career are priceless motivators for you to be the best person you can be.  Living life and working on your own terms CAN be done.  Do plenty of research before you start your home based business and set personal and professional goals you want to achieve.  If you are going to work hard at your career, consider working hard at a home based business where you have complete control over your financial and personal life.
